About heartburn self-treatment with TCM Gua Sha

Heartburn is a painful disease.

Also known as pyrosis or acid indigestion has a painful burning feeling just below or behind the breastbone. It usually comes from the esophagus. The pain often rises in the chest and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw.

Despite its name, heartburn has nothing to do with the heart. It is an irritation of the esophagus that is caused by stomach acid. Heartburn happens when the LES of stomach opens too often or does not close tight enough, so the stomach acid can reflux, or seep, into the esophagus and cause a burning sensation.

Incidental heartburn is not serious. However, if you have heartburn frequently, it can lead to esophagitis. If esophagitis becomes severe, your esophagus might narrow and you might have bleeding or trouble swallowing. It will be very painful and may cause other diseases.

TCM look the heartburn from a different way and address the root cause to liver and stomach.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) understands heartburn as a Liver and Stomach function disorder. Often, Western medicine does not make this critical connection between the Liver and the Stomach and their need to function in harmony and will focus solely on the latter organ. Treating only the Stomach may help alleviate the symptoms, but not the root cause of GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease).

In TCM theory, the Liver and the Stomach organ networks are very closely related. The Liver "controls" or restrains the Stomach if the Stomach's energy (called "Qi" in Chinese) becomes unbalanced or too excessive. From the TCM perspective the Liver is the organ related to the intense emotions—anger, stress and frustration. Liver energy naturally rises and flows outward. If these emotions are excessively intense or held chronically over a long period of time, because of the Liver's close energy connection with the Stomach, its excess energy can be conveyed to the Stomach, causing a reverse in the flow of the Stomach's energy. Stomach Qi naturally flows downward, yet too much emotion can cause it to move upward, which can result in the uncomfortable symptoms of GERD.

TCM Gua Sha treat heartburn from a different way.

For centuries, doctors of TCM have been treating the symptoms we now call GERD with an array of natural treatment modalities, such as acupuncture and Gua ShaTCM treatment in heartburn is to balance the function of the Liver and Stomach.

This ancient Chinese therapy appears to be at least two thousand years old, and has been proved to be extremely effective in treating countless chronic and acute disorders such as gastrointestinal diseases, asthma, bronchitis, headache, heatstroke, pain and stiffness. It has an incredible effect on various diseases caused by functional disharmony of the internal organs.

Gua Sha is based on the same theory as acupuncture. The difference is instead of using needles to stimulate the accurate acupoints, Gua Sha therapy can yield the same result by scraping the proper area on your skin with simple Gua Sha tools.
Gua Sha stimulates the immune system, detoxifies and de-acidifies, promotes the circulation, regulates functions and organs, removes blockades and pain, revitalizes and regenerates ("life-extension"), diminishes stress, fatigue and burn-out, improves and cures countless chronic disorders and complaints, rebalances emotions, relaxes and promotes clarity of mind...everything through ONE simple treatment.

Heartburn attacks are frightening and painful. The technique of Gua Sha is very easy to learn and practice. And it is drug free and no known side effect. It is the most affordable, practical, safe and effective way in treating and controlling your heartburn.
